Thailand’s Laguna Phuket resort used AIME in Melbourne to  unveil plans for a new 1,000 sq.m venue capable of hosting a wide variety of meetings and incentive programs, conferences, gala dinners and other events in a spectacular tropical waterside setting.

Latitude, a marquee-style structure, will be an all-weather, fully air-conditioned stand-alone facility capable of accommodating up to 1,000 people theatre style, 800 for cocktails and 600 for a banquet.

The new facility will occupy 1,500 sq.m of concrete surface to allow for further expansion and breakout capability. An additional 450 sq.m pre-function area also will be available. …click here to read more

Following heavy rains over much of Phuket this morning and afternoon, the Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) office at Phuket International Airport has issued its first weather advisory of 2010.

Issued at 1pm, the advisory warns people in risk areas to beware of thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind.

Meteorologist Sopon Sangkaew told the Gazette there was no specific time period for which the advisory will remain in effect.

“Freak storms can happen any time after long periods of hot weather. It has nothing to do with the arrival of the monsoon season,” he said. …click here to read more

PHUKET: Money raised in Phuket to help earthquake-stricken Haiti may surpass the 3-million-baht mark, as the Rotary Club of Patong has revealed it has sent more than 400,000 baht to its Canadian-based Shelter Box relief project.

Club president Woody Leonhard said matching donations from the Canadian government will result in more than 800,000 baht going to the charity.

Shelter Box is a worldwide Rotary project that is sending survival kits to the devastated Central Caribbean republic.

Mr Leonhard said Rotary members, other Phuket residents and others including the Rotary Club of St Moritz, Switzerland had raised 405,000 baht for Shelter Box. …click here to read more
