Sixteen North Korean citizens (North Korea) the seeker of asylum, including three young children, was arrested in north of Thailand after accused of entering the country illegally, said Thai police, on Tuesday. The group was arrested on Monday in the Nong Thai province after they crossed the Mekong river from the Laotian neighbouring country, said local police.
“They came from a village in North Korea through China and Laos, in the trip during 20 days,” said a police officer in Nong Thai to the AFP. According to him, the seeker’s group of the asylum including two small girls and a male child, that aged between three and eight years. The North Korean citizens escaped from the country of hard-line communists that currently faces shortage of food .
The North Korean resident seeker for asylum often left their country which crossed to China, but they faced the risk to be returned if they were arrested. China regarded North Koreans refugees had an economics motive and the seeker of repatriation. They tried to escape from facing the detention in the political prisoner’s camps, said human rights groups. More than 10,000 North Korean refugees did crossing to South Korea, where they were often given by the status as citizen.
